Before moving to Alaska I thought it would be a place of peace and quiet. How wrong I was (although I did see a bumper sticker on a jacked up, Alaskan truck that said “honk if you like peace and quiet”). My dreams of communing with no one but moose in the Alaskan country side were shattered the moment we arrived. I don’t think I’ve gone one day without hearing the beep, beep, beep of a bulldozer backing up, since most Alaskans own their very own Bob Cat. Gouging out buckets of earth for no reason is a favorite Alaskan past time When not making noise digging up mud with their bulldozers, Alaskans can be heard whirring around on ATV’s and snow machines and firing guns into the air.
